Health

General public health is under the administration of the Ministry of Health and Social Services. Otavi host Primary Health Centre operating 24 hours with one Doctor, three Registered Nurses, ten Enrolled Nurses, one Driver, two Cleaners and one Record Clerk and one Data Clerk, two Health Assistants, two TB Field Promoters, one Social Worker and One ambulance.

There is one clinic operating at Kombat private land for the mine with one Registered Nurse, one Enrolled Nurse and one Cleaner. Furthermore, there are three Private Doctors and one Dentist with their own consulting rooms and pharmacy. A third clinic is under construction at Etunda farm, owned by Founding Father of the Namibian Nation His Excellency Dr. Sam Shafishuna Nujoma

The Otavi Local Authority compliments the emergency service with an Ambulance that provides for mobility of patients. The ambulance was donated by the Ohorongo – Otavi Community Trust.

Local Authority

Otavi is a town of 5,242 inhabitants; it is the district capital of the Otavi electoral constituency. The town of Otavi is part of the towns that known as the "Otavi Triangle". This geographical region is sometimes referred to as the "Golden Triangle", or as the "Maize triangle", owing to the cultivation of Maize in the area.

Much of the town's economy relies on the two grocery stores, a mill, 2 banks, two gas stations, and many surrounding game/cattle farms, as well as a handful of other small business.

Otavi Investment Expo and Festival that is held each year attract more investors and promote economic growth and job creation to the inhabitants of the town.

The town is committed to provide quality services such as portable water, sanitation facilities, servicing plots and cleaning streets.

Transportation and Communication Network

Mobile Telecommunication Networks and products such as 3G, internet, etc. are available. Radio frequency and digital Television coverage exist in most parts of the constituency. Postal and Courier services are available rendering good services to the community.

Road

Otavi is the gateway to the North, South and North East parts of the country. The Trans-Caprivi Highway that connects Walvis Bay Corridor with the neighboring countries such as Zambia, DRC, Zimbabwe and Botswana pass through Otavi. Therefore, Otavi adds as interlink node for logistics and transportation.

 

Railway

The railway was built in 1903 to transport copper ore to Swakopmund from Otavi and Tsumeb. The German colonial company which ran the mine and built the railway was the Otavi Minen-und Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft (OMEG).  The railway line connect Otavi to other towns such as Otjiwarongo, Tsumeb, Grootfontein run up to Oshikango border post and boosting the economy of the country.

The location of Otavi town serves as an ideal location for a logistic hub in the inland of the country serving the countries such as Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Angola and DRC.

Many of the famous politicians, high ranking government officials and well know businessmen are farming in Otavi constituency. The Founding Father of the Namibian Nation His Excellency Dr Sam Nujoma, His Excellency Former President Hifikepunye Pohamba and Current President Dr Hage Geingob are farming in Otavi district. Cabinet Ministers, Retired Politicians, Managing Directors of Agribank, Advocates, Former Mayor Mathew Shikongo, City of Windhoek and Mayor of Otavi Town, Markus Damaseb are farming in Otavi district.
